DATAPUNK (hybrid set)

DATAPUNK brings his emotional dancefloor classics back as ‘hybrid set’ performance. FATHER, Man Up The Hill, PUNKS, Back Home, BIG BOYS, Moderntronic, DISCO LIGHT and many more of his great Datapunk classics.

THE HISTORY OF DATAPUNK

At the beginning of 2003, I wanted to explore a new artistic and musical approach. First, I created the name DATAPUNK for this project. Then I spent several months experimenting in the studio to translate Datapunk into a musical style and sound. In the summer of 2003, I had my first track that felt like Datapunk to me: “BACK HOME.” I released “Back Home” directly as a vinyl record in the fall of 2003.

The feedback on Back Home was overwhelming, and with this positive energy, I immediately decided to produce a Datapunk album. In an intense production phase lasting just six weeks, I completed POPKILLER. My album Popkiller was released in May 2004 as a double vinyl and CD, featuring classics such as FATHER and PUNKS.

An international community of Datapunk fans and supporters quickly emerged. By 2013, I had released several albums and singles on Datapunk. These included my albums SUPER SPACE MODEL, THIS IS ELECTRO, and POPKILLER 2, as well as the singles MODERNTRONIC, SO GOOD, WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN, DISCO LIGHT, and BIG BOYS.

For 10 years, I performed the Datapunk sound live worldwide. In 2014, I decided to stop playing live. On January 1, 2015, I played my last Datapunk show in Amsterdam. The end of Datapunk was a conscious decision at the time to rediscover myself artistically and musically.

THE PAST

In 2015, I decided that I would not spend the rest of my artistic life just playing “FATHER,” “BACK HOME,” or “PUNKS.” I needed to rediscover myself artistically, experiment, explore, and try out different musical ideas.

I had to escape the safe and beautiful Datapunk universe. I had to escape my static image and the expectations placed on me to play the same songs for people over and over again.

Over the last decade, I have consistently followed my artistic path and created my own creative world without Datapunk as ANTHONY ROTHER. Now, after 10 years, my artistic independence has brought me to a point where I can identify with Datapunk again.
